China clamps down on Activision's top online game

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Most Business Networkers in Preston may not be aware that a Chinese regulator has suspended approval for NetEase.com Inc to operate Activision Blizzard's World of Warcraft online game, putting the future of the recently-launched and high-profile title in question in China. Citing "gross violations" of regulations, the General Administration of Press and Publication said it had halted and returned NetEase's application to operate "Burning Crusades" -- the latest version of the game licensed from Activision.

 

China 3G stirs up mobile Internet frenzy

BEIJING/HONG KONG (Reuters) - China's recent roll out of 3G mobile services is creating a land grab among its business Internet firms, old and new alike, salivating over a mobile network Internet market the size of the U.S. and Europe combined. China's introduction from mid-year of third-generation (3G) network mobile services, which allow for easy Web surfing over mobile phones, poses a huge business opportunity for both foreign and Chinese companies, from content developers to game operators and providers of other mobile services.

SYDNEY (Reuters) - People scared of flying can now press a button on their iPhone to help them deal with their panic. Long-haul airline Virgin Atlantic Airways has launched an application, or app, for its Flying Without Fear course which boasts a success rate of over 98 percent. Networks and Apps are a source of information, games and other novelty ideas for users of Apple's iPhone business devices and iPod Touch devices.

Sony Ericsson unveiled its new X10 flagship phone on Tuesday, its first to run on Google's Android operating system, but plans to start to sell it only next year. Loss-making Sony Ericsson, the world's fourth largest handset maker, has suffered since 2008 from a lack of attractive high-end cellphone models in its offering, and saw overall sales shrinking 45 percent from a year ago in the last quarter. The X10 will have a 4.0 inches wide capacitive touch screen, it uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon processor, and it comes with 8.1 megapixel camera which is ideal for Business Networking marketing opportunities.

HAVANA (Reuters) - A popular website of classified ads that has given Cubans a taste of the free market has been blocked on the communist-run island, Internet users said. Cubans trying to access Revolico.com, which says it has more than 1.5 million page views a month, are being diverted to the search engine Google.com.

Facebook gets $711 million damages in anti-spam case

(Reuters) - Business and social networking website Facebook was awarded $711.2 million (430 million pounds) in damages relating to an anti-spam case against Internet network marketer Sanford Wallace, court documents show. Wallace did not oppose the motion or appear at the hearing on September 18, 2009, according to a filing on Thursday in a San Jose, California federal court. 

 

NEW YORK (Reuters) - IBM has replaced senior executive Robert Moffat as the head of its hardware division, saying he left the company two weeks after he was arrested in a high-profile insider trading scandal. Moffat, once widely seen as a possible successor to IBM Chief Executive Sam Palmisano, was placed on a leave of absence on October 19 following his arrest in the largest-ever insider trading scheme involving a hedge fund.

Disney launching iPhone, iPod touch applications

 

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Walt Disney is launching free iPhone and iPod touch applications, giving fans access to Disney content and interactive features anywhere. Disney.com, part of the Disney Interactive Network Business Media Group, said it will offer users of the popular Apple devices items like the new "Click2Life" feature that lets fans take pictures of images from the Disney.com Web site, and eventually in the physical world, and unlock exclusive content.

 

Latin to lose its domain over Internet

SEOUL (Reuters) - Preston Webdesigners and business networkers in the technolgy area will be dismayed to learn that the body in charge of assigning the world's Internet users their online addresses on Friday said it had agreed to allow the use of any of the world's scripts, no longer just the Latin alphabet. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), which approved the change at a meeting in Seoul, said in a statement it could lead to a dramatic rise in the number of Internet users.
